God knows how much I love legends and this is surely one of my favorites.
An unimaginably long long time ago, the legend of Pheidippides was born. He was pretty common in that he was one of the many soldiers who fought the Greek-Persian wars. His fate, though, was extraordinary as he was assigned a very special task: he had to go from Marathon all the way to Athens to let the people know the Greeks had won the battle. And so he did. He run along the coast from Marathon Bay, between the mountains and 40 klm/25 miles later, he was in Athens.
That was the first marathon of history.
In the centuries that followed the birth of that legend, many marathons have been founded and run and they were all about one thing: delivering the message.
The message is fear won’t stop us.
The message is we can do it.
